Affordable Housing Industry Navigator (2024)

Position Summary

The Affordable Housing Industry Navigator will be a full-time, administrative staff position housed within in the Classroom to Career Hub’s Industry Partnerships Team assigned to MSU Denver’s Affordable Housing Institute. The Industry Navigator will work closely with the local employers, MSU Denver faculty, staff, and students to ensure all are prepared for mutually beneficial and impactful experiential learning and post- graduate opportunities within the Affordable Housing Industry. The industry navigator serves as a career specialist, builds a deep understanding of the industry trends and workforce needs in which our students can acquire the skills, expertise, and career preparedness to transition their student experience into meaningful careers.

The MSU Denver Affordable Housing Institute provides career-oriented experiences in the industry for our students through individual or cohort-based programming. Students will be exposed to the diversity of opportunities available regardless of their disciplinary focus or major. The Institute supports and guides initiatives for students to gain practical skills that will serve them in careers within the affordable housing industry through academic programming, internships, career guidance, and a network of high-profile industry experts.

The affordable housing industry is multi-faceted, encompassing such areas as operational support for managing an affordable housing unit, support for those providing direct client wrap-around support services, discussions regarding housing policy as well as financing and development. Given the range of disciplines needed, the Affordable Housing Certificate is one of the first initiatives to address industry need.

With an ambitious goal of engaging 100% of students in robust career planning in the next three years, the University is committed to creating services that are scaled, highly evaluated, and focused on the specific needs and interests of MSU Denver students. To that end, successful team members think critically about MSU Denver student demographics and their respective career planning.

The position is a 3 year temporarily funded position with intent to secure additional funding. Depending on whether additional funding can be secured or not, there may be a possibility of this position ending when funding is no longer available.

Responsibilities

University-Industry Partnerships (40%)

  • Collaborate with current and prospective employers to understand their unique CO talent pipeline needs and their opportunities to engage with MSU Denver, particularly in the affordable housing sphere.
  • Become familiar with and articulate in the research, background and context which led to the development of the AHI and the trends and needs identified which justified why it was established.
  • Work with respective faculty members to connect and foster relationships with affordable housing industry partners in benefit of students.
  • Engage employers in developing a talent recruitment strategy that includes diversity, equity, and inclusion, position management, recruiting programs and events. Work closely with employers to build and strengthen internship programs.
  • Partner with industry to develop student career readiness activities including classroom visits, mentoring, and panel discussions.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-profile employers aligned to MSU Denver’s employer engagement strategy. Develop and manage programs aligned to shared student development and recruitment outcomes.

Student Career Readiness and Internship Program (50%)

  • Support career readiness programs for students by bringing industry context to career planning.
  • Provide industry-specific knowledge and strengthen opportunity network within respective workforce sectors.
  • Develop key partnerships with faculty to bolster skills learned in the classroom and connect to applied learning within industry opportunities.
  • Partner with academic departments and faculty to promote and encourage student participation in experiential learning opportunities.
  • Support planning and implementation of internship application processes, orientation sessions, placements, etc.
  • Periodic travel to internship locations for support.

Assessment and Reporting (10%)

  • Develop and track success measures regarding student participation and industry partner engagement.
  • Ensure reporting data in our Career Link database is accurate and comprehensive including contact notes for students and employers.
  • Develop and maintain depth of understanding of respective industry trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience developing and sustaining professional relationships and/or partnerships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or tasks while adapting to changing priorities
  • Previous experience working with or within the affordable housing industry, property management, or social service organization
  • Experience with college recruiting, building campus relationships or related university experience
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management platforms such as Salesforce, Handshake, or Symplicity
  • Experience working with diverse, urban and non-traditional teams, customers, or clients. Commitment to understanding equity, inclusion, and diversity relating to recruitment

Work Hours/Type

  • Mon – Fri, Full-time, 40 hours/week. Meetings/Events typically held between 8 am – 5 pm
  • Possibility of a flexible, hybrid position subject to supervisor approval and program needs
  • Evening and weekend hours as necessary

Salary for Announcement

This position is a 3 year temporarily-funded position with intent to secure additional funding. Depending on whether additional funding can be secured or not, there may be a possibility of this position ending when funding is no longer available.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $49,900 – $58,000. The salary of the finalist selected for hire will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, training, and qualifications.
